College of Saint Elizabeth Opens Art Show
Histories: Figuring It Out

On Thursday, September 13,  the College of Saint Elizabeth, 2 Convent Road, Morristown, NJ,  opened its 29th show at the Therese A. Maloney Art Gallery in Annunciation Center. Histories: Figuring It Out, displays the work of eight different artists whose drawings, paintings, photo-montages, mixed media sculptures and installations, reveal many different ways contemporary artists convey the human figure and face to realize and reveal a personality or story.

Virginia Fabbri Butera, PhD, Director of the Maloney Art Gallery curated the show. She notes that, "For centuries, history painting was considered the most important subject matterfor western-trained artists. They would paint interpretive scenes from ancient history, mythology or the Bible to convey searing truths about all aspects of the human experience. Now artists often focus on bits and pieces of figurative incidents to convey meaning and message. The works, which range from traditional imagery and realistic paintings to elaborate assemblages of found objects, give the viewer a cross-section of artistic practice today."

Artists include Sir James Adkins (Bedminster, NJ), David Fertig (Pemberton, NJ), Ronald Gonzalez (Johnson City, NY),  Cavin Jones (Philadelphia, PA), Mel Leipzig (Trenton, NJ), Kathleen MacKenzie (Tillson,NY), Giuseppe Munafo (Paramus, NJ), Mansa K. Mussa (West Orange, NJ).

The Gallery is open Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday, 2:00 – 6:00 pm and by appointment. For more information, please visit the Gallery website at www.maloneyartgallery.org
